St Boniface is a Roman Catholic church dating from around 1907.
Till about 1897, the chapel of St. Joseph's College, Upper Tooting Park, served the Catholics of the locality for Mass. On the removal of the college to Denmark Hill, Mass was said every Sunday at Holly Lodge, the residence of — Stowel, Esq., by Fr. R. Bullesbach, of Balham. About 1899 Fr. Bullesbach came to live at Tooting. A chapel was opened at Hereford Lodge, a large, old-fashioned mansion in the Mitcham Road, which also served as the presbytery. The much-needed Catholic schools were opened by Bishop Bourne, of Southwark, in 1903. The number of Catholics at Tooting is about 2,000, the population of late years having greatly increased owing to the building in the neighbourhood of thousands of small houses, which have turned a rural outskirt of London into a densely populated suburb. The number of children attending the school is about 400. Fr. Wm. Allanson, D.D., rector since 1904, was succeeded in September 1906 by Fr. G. Williams, late of Walworth.
