St. Matthew's was built around the 1850s. It was originally in the Ancient Parishan Ancient Parish is a Church of England parish which, until the 19th century, had both ecclesiastical and civil functions of Cobham. By the mid 1860s Wikipedia says it had become a parish church. In 1878, 1908 and again in 1928 the Church was included in Schemes made by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners reorganising the Rural Deanery of Leatherhead. In 1954, by Order in Council, Hatchford became a United Beneficean united benefice is a union of two or more Church of England parishes which remain distinct legal entities but share an Incumbant with Ockham.

In October 1967 by Order in Council a Scheme was approved to demolish St. Matthew's Church

The hamlet is now part of the parish of Ockham with Hatchford & Downside

There is one war grave in the former cemetery of St Matthew Hatchford.

WSFHS CD 13(The Elmbridge Collection) has baptismal records for Cobham St Andrew from 1562 to 1565 and 1610 to 1840, Burials from 1562 to 1865 (with gaps) and Marriages from 1562 to 1837

WSFHS CD 15(Surrey Baptisms Not in the IGI) has baptismal records for Cobham St Andrew from 1813 to 1840

WSFHS CD 44(Some Ancient Parishes in the Epsom District) has baptismal records for Cobham St Andrew from 1562 to 1840, and Burial records from 1562 to 1865.

West Surrey FHS CD15 (Surrey Baptisms Not in the IGI) has baptismal records for Hatchford St. Matthew from 1865 to 1876.

WSFHS CD30 (Ancient Parishes in the Guildford District) has baptismal records for All Saints, Ockham from 1568 to 1840, marriages from 1568 to 1840 and burials from 1568 to 1840.

The church is in the Anglican Diocese of Guildford. The Guildford Diocesan Record Office, where you should find any surviving registers for this parish, is the Surrey History Centre.


Hatchford is a hamlet in the Elmbridge District of Surrey.
