The "Victorian Cemetery" is the detached churchyard for St Lawrence Church. It is opposite the Joint Burial Board Cemetery
West Surrey Family History Society holds only war grave information for the Victorian Cemetery West Surrey Family History Society CD10(Surrey Burial Index) has burial records for Chobham St Lawrence from 1587 to 1578 and 1654 to 1870. WSFHS CD15(Surrey Baptisms Not in the IGI) has Baptismal records for Chobham St Lawrence from 1587, and 1770 to 1840. WSFHS CD26(Parish Register Transcipts and Indexes in the Chertsey District) has these records for Chobham St Lawrence: Baptisms 1587 to 1588, 1654 to 1840; Marriages 1587, 1655 to 1837; Burials 1587 to 1588 and 1654 to 1840;. During their survey of Surrey Cemeteries some years ago the Friends of the Surrey Cemeteries included both the Victorian Cemetery and Chobham Cemetery in their notes for Chobham Friends of Surrey Cemeteries (Surrey Cemeteries: a survey, 2012): Set back on western side of High Street with the New & Old areas either side of footpath. Chobham & West End Joint Burial Committee. “Victorian Cemetery” now closed. Circa 1-2 acres. No buildings. New cemetery circa 1-2 acres opened 1960s no buildings. Lawn cemetery rules. Visited in 2008 - Old cemetery appears to be mid Victorian but when application to close it was lodged it was found to have never officially opened! Mature hedging and trees to all boundaries including redwoods. Poorly maintained and access to many graves difficult even in winter. A grant to the local scouts has been re-instigated for ongoing maintenance. The perimeter is not secure and letters have been sent to the press (Feb 2009) complaining about dog fouling. New area opened in the 1960s. Small car park at end of access track opposite St Lawrence Church. Average memorials. Some laying down and banding of memorials – locals unhappy at this. Chobham Museum at Benham’s Corner (Saturday/Sunday 11.30-3.30) has been given the Funeral Book of A J Coleman and Son 1916-1973. Originally decorators. The Victorian Cemetery and St. Lawrence's church are both in the (civil) parisha Civil Parish is the bottom most tier of local government in England Sometimes called Town Councils in urban areas [NB Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have different systems of local government] of Chobham in the Surrey Heath district of Surrey.
