The new ecclesiastical parishan ecclesiastical parish is an administrative area within the Church of England or Roman Catholic church. It is distinct from the civil parish, a local government unit in England of Walworth St. Peter was created from part of the Ancient Parishan Ancient Parish is a Church of England parish which, until the 19th century, had both ecclesiastical and civil functions of Newington St. Mary in 1827.

Parts of the parish of St. Peter were moved into the new ecclesiastical parishesan ecclesiastical parish is an administrative area within the Church of England or Roman Catholic church. It is distinct from the civil parish, a local government unit in England :
  • Walworth St. Mark, East Street (1870)
  • Walworth Common St. Stephen (1870)
  • Grosvenor Park (1871)
  • Walworth All Saints with St. Stephen (1956)



We have no records of inscriptions in St. Peter's churchyard. We do however have a transcription of the burial registers from 1825 to 1896 (see details lower down this page).

Earlier burials may have taken place at the Ancient Parishan Ancient Parish is a Church of England parish which, until the 19th century, had both ecclesiastical and civil functions church -- Newington St. Mary

There are almost 6,000 names in the Index to the Surrey Monumental inscriptions Library taken from Robert Hovenden’s “The monumental inscriptions in the old churchyard of St. Mary, Newington”, 1880.

West Surrey Family History Society CD29 (A 2nd Collection of Metropolitan Surrey Burials Index) has burial records for Walworth, St. Peter from 1825 to 1896.

West Surrey Family History Society CD18 (Metropolitan Surrey Burials Index) has burial records for Newington St Mary from 1746-1776.

WSFHS CD29 (A 2nd Collection of Metropolitan Surrey Burials Index) has burial records for Newington St Mary from 1707-1745, 1777-1854.

WSFHS CD24 (A 2nd Collection of Surrey Baptisms) has baptismal records for Newington St Mary from 1707-1776.

The church is in the Church of England Diocese of Southwark. The Southwark Diocesan Record Office, where you should find any surviving parish registers for this church, is the London Metropolitan Archives.
