The original Christ Church was consecrated in 1671 using funds provided by the will of John Marshall. The parish comprised the Liberty of Old Paris Garden and was formerly part of the Ancient Parishan Ancient Parish is a Church of England parish which, until the 19th century, had both ecclesiastical and civil functions of Southwark St. Saviour.
The church was destroyed during World War 2 and the present building was built in 1957 on part of the site of the former church.
