A Roman Catholic mission was established at Caterham around 1879 and the Roman Catholic church of the Sacred Heart opened about 1881. The site of the former St Thomas of Canterbury church was acquired ca. 1957 as the site for a Chapel of EaseA daughter church within an ecclesiastical Parish, or a chapel in an outlying area of the parish that is more convenient for parishioners to attend . The new church opened in 1961. St. Thomas' church closed in 2010 and it was demolished around 2016. The site is now used for housing.

the former church stood in the Anglican ecclesiastical parishan ecclesiastical parish is an administrative area within the Church of England or Roman Catholic church. It is distinct from the civil parish, a local government unit in England of Whyteleafe, St. Luke


The was no graveyard at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, nor at the Sacred Heart Caterham. However older burials may have taken place at the (Anglican) Ancient Parishan Ancient Parish is a Church of England parish which, until the 19th century, had both ecclesiastical and civil functions church of Warlingham All Saints

WSFHS CD10(The Surrey Burial Index - 2nd edition 2009) has burial records for Warlingham All Saints from 1678 to 1865.
