The inscriptions in the Society's Library for the Ancient Parishan Ancient Parish is a Church of England parish which, until the 19th century, had both ecclesiastical and civil functions of Barnes St Mary were collected in 1932. There are around 720 names which date from ca. 1508 to ca. 1923 We have recently copied G E Cokayne's notes on Barnes churchyard from ca 1890 (courtesy of Surrey Archaeological Society) At 24 June 2015 these have not yet been transcribed nor indexed.

It is distinct from the civil parish, a local government unit in England , Barnes Holy Trinity in 1888; and Barnes St Michael and All Angels in 1919. Both were previously Chapels of EaseA daughter church or churches within an ecclesiastical Parish, or a chapel in an outlying area of the parish that is more convenient for parishioners to attend . WSFHS CD10(The Surrey Burial Index - 2nd edition 2009) has burial records for Barnes St Mary from 1538 to 1865. The church is in the Church of England Diocese of Southwark. The Southwark Diocesan Record Office for churches and parishes in the modern administrative county of Surrey, and those London Boroughs that were in Surrey until 1965, is the Surrey History Centre. This is where you should find any surviving parish registers, Barnes is a district in the London Borough of Richmond.
