Friends of Surrey Cemeteries (Surrey Cemeteries: a survey, 2012):

Philanthropic Road, Redhill.

Opened 1932 on 16 acres. Chapel and offices.

Reigate & Banstead DC, Castlefield road, Reigate RH2 0SH. 01737 761 592

Built on land that had contained the Philanthropic Society’s Farm School 1926. Council had considered land at Sunnyside in Chart lane but this had been purchased by Godfrey Searle who owned the adjoining church fields and wished to keep as an open space. Later he gifted 2 acres to the Scouts & Guides.

Visited 2006 and met the manager – very friendly, opened the chapel for us and gave us leaflets. His office at the cemetery is responsible for Reigate, Chart Lane, also managed by Reigate & Banstead Council.

Opened 1932 covering 16 acres of elevated open land with good views south. About 10 years space left, no laying down of graves. Clean toilets. 100 burials a year with 50% using cemetery chapel. Nicely hedged, well tended with mature but small trees and bushes – fairly open. Both lawn and traditional graves available, dedicated children's section plus cremated remains. Lawn memorials restricted to 3ft by 2ft 6ins. Memorial to unidentified civilians who died by enemy action 19 Apr 1941. A war grave section also. Burial records are kept at the cemetery and surname searches are possible plus assistance in tracing a grave.

The cemetery is in the ecclesiastical parishan ecclesiastical parish is an administrative area within the Church of England or Roman Catholic church. It is distinct from the civil parish, a local government unit in England of Redhill St. John the Evangelist.

The Redhill is in the Reigate and Banstead District of Surrey
Unless otherwise stated the dates for the creation of parishes are taken from Youngs, Frederick. A., Guide to the Administrative Units of England; Royal Historical Society: London, 1979 volume 1 Southern England.
