A guide to Churches and Graveyards in Surrey for family historians

Christ Church opened ca. 1935 and replaced a building in North Street which opened ca 1844 and is now a sandwich bar. The North Street church itself replaced a barn in the centre of Leatherhead which was used for worship from around 1829. Christ Church closed in January 2021 and the building was sold for redevelopment toward the end of that year. There is no graveyard at Christ church nor at its predecessor churches. Earlier burials may have taken place in the graveyard of the parish church - Leatherhead St. Mary and St. Nicholas. The monumental Inscriptions from the St. Mary and St. Nicholas graveyard were collected by Alfred Bax ca 1890. His notes are in the archives of the Surrey Archaeological Society and were transcribed by West Surrey FHS volunteers in October 2015.
