Friends of Surrey Cemeteries (Surrey Cemeteries: a survey, 2012): Rectory Lane, Long Ditton. Elmbridge BC, 42 New Zealand Avenue, Walton on Thames. 01372 474567. 56 acres originally planned but only 4.2 acres currently with plans to extend a little. Opened 1953. SHC 3419/roll 119 map of proposed cemetery of 56 acres but no layout, just area to be used. Some boundaries unclear due to distances from housing. SHC 7016/6 fees register with names and plots 1953-74 SHC 6343/File 1 plan Jan 1951 – proposals to set it out as either a lawn cemetery or a park cemetery. Lawn has restrictions on types of stone and sizes Visited in 2007 and found to be much smaller than SHC plan. Very peaceful and well kept. Jewish area on left of entrance dating from 16 Sep 1990 for Kingston Liberal Synagogue. Lovely trees and shrubs. Small summerhouse in centre plus offices and toilets on right of entrance. Long Ditton Cemetery is in the Ancient Parishan Ancient Parish is a Church of England parish which, until the 19th century, had both ecclesiastical and civil functions of Long Ditton St. Mary and is opposite the church. West Surrey Family History Society CD10 (The Surrey Burial Index - 2nd edition 2009) has burial records for Long Ditton St. Mary from 1566-1865. WSFHS CD 15(Surrey Baptisms Not in the IGI) has baptismal records for Long Ditton St. Mary from 1813 to 1840 and 1867 to 1875 WSFHS CD 28 Ancient Parishes in the Kingston District) has baptismal records for Long Ditton St. Mary from 1564 to 1840; Marriages from 1564 to 1837 and Burials 1566 to 1865; See the WSFHS sales page(opens in a new page) for more information.
