This church has no graveyard. It opened in around 1887 as a chapel of ease to St James's Church, it closed in the late 1970s

Abinger Hammer is in the Ancient Parishan Ancient Parish is a Church of England parish which, until the 19th century, had both ecclesiastical and civil functions of Abinger St. James. The inscriptions in the Surrey Monumental Inscriptions Library for Abinger. St James were noted by Arthur Ridley Bax (1844-1918) in September 1890. Bax's notebooks are in the Library of Surrey Archaeological Society. They were filmed and transcribed by volunteers from West Surrey Family History Society and are used with permission.

Parts of Abinger parish were moved into Holmbury St Mary (1878) and Oakwood(1853)


WSFHS CD10(The Surrey Burial Index - 2nd edition 2009) has burial records for Abinger St James from 1559 to 1876.

WSFHS CD15(Surrey Baptisms Not in the IGI) has baptismal records for Abinger St James from 1559 to 1840.

The church is in the Anglican Diocese of Guildford. The Guildford Diocesan Record Office, where you should find any surviving registers for this parish, is the Surrey History Centre.


Abinger Hammer is in the Mole Valley district of Surrey.
